Trello is a visual tool for organizing projects using boards, lists, and cards. Now part of the Atlassian suite of solutions, it facilitates collaboration by allowing users to assign tasks, track progress, and manage deadlines efficiently.
By creating simple and codeless integrations between Textmagic and Trello, you will be able to:
Get notified via SMS when a Trello card is due
Send an SMS when a card is created or moved to another list
Track incoming messages or missed calls in Textmagic with Trello
In this article, we will go over these four useful automations, starting with a quick tutorial on connecting Trello and Textmagic via Zapier. Let’s begin.
Connect Trello and Textmagic via Zapier
To start creating integrations between Trello and Textmagic with Zapier, you must first connect the two apps. Register your Zapier account or sign into it if you have one already.
Connect Trello to Zapier from the Zapier Apps tab by choosing Add connection. Search for ‘Trello’ and select it from the dropdown list. Then, complete the authentication flow to finalize the process.
Connect Textmagic to Zapier by following the same process, this time searching for ‘Textmagic’ and selecting the app. A pop-up window will open, asking you to insert your API key, which you can find under Services > API in the Textmagic app.
For this step to be completed, you also need to have a Textmagic account, so make sure to sign up if you haven’t done so already.
You’re now ready to start creating your Trello and Textmagic integrations. Click the Create button on your Zapier dashboard to begin.
1. Get an SMS notification when a Trello card is due
Have you ever missed a Trello deadline because of your busy schedule? Creating this integration with Textmagic can help you never overlook a due card again. Here’s how you can do that without building a Trello SMS API from scratch.
Configure the triggering app & event for your Zap. For App, choose Trello; for Event, choose Card Due.
Continue to the Account section and log into Trello if you haven’t done so already.
You can configure the Board, Time Before, and Status in the Trigger tab. This will determine when the SMS notification will be sent and what it will be about.
You can also choose to receive notifications only about cards where you’re a member or all the cards on the selected board.
Test the triggering event. While this is optional, we advise doing it at this step to ensure your integration works smoothly.
Next, configure the action app & event. For App, choose TextMagic SMS; for Event, choose Send Message.
Continue to the Account section and log into Textmagic if you haven’t done so already.
You can configure the text message notification and its recipients under the Action tab. Choose between phone numbers, Textmagic contacts, or Textmagic contact lists.
In this section, you can also tailor other fields, such as phone number country, scheduling, and timezones.
Test the action event, then click Publish to activate the Zap.
2. Send SMS notifications for new Trello cards
Sending SMS notifications for new Trello cards is a great way to keep everyone in your team aware of incoming tasks. Creating this simple Textmagic integration will ensure that nothing slips through the cracks.
Configure the triggering app & event for your Zap. For App, choose Trello; for Event, choose New Card.
You can configure the Board, List, and Status in the Trigger tab. Test your trigger before proceeding to the next step.
Next, configure the action app & event. For App, choose TextMagic SMS; for Event, choose Send Message.
You can configure the text message notification under the Action tab. Personalize the SMS as you want using the text variables provided by Zapier.
For recipients, choose between phone numbers, Textmagic contacts, or Textmagic contact lists.
Test your action, then hit Publish to activate the automation.
Optional: Send an SMS when a card is moved to a new list
To enhance awareness and transparency even more, you can also set up Trello SMS notifications for cards that are moved to a new list in Trello. The process is very similar to new card alerts, with a few exceptions:
For the triggering Event, choose Card Moved to List instead.
You will have to choose a specific board and list for the notification.
The card you’re notified about can also be specific, but this isn’t mandatory.
3. Track incoming SMS in Textmagic using Trello cards
Trello can become a useful tool for keeping track of incoming messages by creating a simple yet efficient integration with the Textmagic app. This will allow you to streamline the process of monitoring messages, enhancing both task management and response times in the process.
Configure the action app & event. For App, choose TextMagic SMS; for Event, choose New Incoming Message.
Test your trigger before proceeding to the next step.
Next, configure the action app & event for your Zap. For App, choose Trello; for Event, choose Create Card.
You must choose a specific board and list where to send the text to Trello cards.
Then, personalize the card name and description using Zapier variables. This will help you distinguish between the cards.
At this stage, you can also customize other fields, such as Labels, Card Position, Members, Due Date, Attachments, and Checklists. However, these aren’t mandatory.
Click Continue when you’re satisfied with the level of detail your new cards will contain, then test the trigger.
Click Publish to activate the Zap.
Optional: Track missed Textmagic calls with Trello cards
Similarly, you can keep track of missed calls with Trello by automatically creating Trello cards to log them. The process is very similar to the one for incoming text messages, with one exception:
For Event, choose New Missed Call instead.
Conclusion
Integrating Textmagic with Trello through Zapier enables a set of powerful automations that enhance project management and communication. Receiving timely SMS notifications for due cards, alerting team members about new tasks, and organizing incoming messages are all tools that will enhance responsiveness and organizational clarity in the long run.
Embrace these integrations and transform how you track and manage your projects with Trello and Textmagic. Start implementing them today and experience a noticeable boost in project efficiency and communication fluidity—no additional code required.
